Custom design used to be something elusive and not easily attainable by everyday people. Today, there are new companies popping up all the time that offer easy custom goods. Everything from bikes to shoes to toothbrushes can be designed just for you. The best news is many of these manufacturers are based right here in North America.
Last week I tried out Framebridge to have a piece of art custom framed. I designed it online, paid for it, and they emailed me a shipping label and out the door it went. I should have my newly framed art back in a few weeks.
There are other similar companies that I enjoy using all the time, so I thought today I'd share a roundup of a few favorites - Most of them based right here in the Already Great America. ;) (You're welcome)
What they are known for: Have your art framed via mail - Includes free shipping both ways.
Based in: Maryland & Kentucky
They pride themselves on using new technology and old school craftsmanship. They don’t source any of the work out, so you are working with them from the beginning to end of the process. They use designers to match your artwork with frames that will compliment them. They also make sure that the mat and mounting process will preserve the artwork. Framebridge assembles all of the frames there per custom order and use a vector acrylic cutter to minimize waste. The last step is making sure that each package I shipped safely with all hardware included.
What they are known for: Upload your digital photos and have them professionally framed and mailed.
Based in: Portland
Livestock Framing believes in the philosophy that framing practices need to keep up with the accessibility of digital photography. They know that not all photos are meant to put up in your living room, but many belong somewhere besides Instagram and Facebook. They hope to inspire their customers to keep adding and improving to their personal galleries.
The process is simple. Upload a digital photo, chose sizing, chose a frame color and they will professionally print, mat, frame, pack and ship the finished work complete with necessary hardware.
