10 Ways to Make Your Home Look Younger

Social-younger-01.png

Imagine if your home could make you feel fresh, youthful, and a little bit sexier.

As a nation we spend bajillions (that’s a number) on creams, potions, and pumps to make ourselves look and feel younger, but did you ever consider that your home might be making you feel old? So often, when we start to experience existential crises, our first instinct is to hold up a mirror. Put it down. Look around yourself. Your home has a powerful effect on how you feel. After all, it’s where we begin and end every day.

How does your home make you feel? Are your pillows droopy? Is your once white shag rug, matted and gray? And about that dead fiddle fig? But perhaps the cost or time of a room refresh feels overwhelming? The truth is, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune and any money you spend will be well worth the investment.   Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can instantly inject youth back into your space without breaking the bank. Pick 3 and do them this weekend.

#1 Declutter

The phenomenon of the Konmari Method is a tried and true way to dramatically remove excess stuff without regret.

#2 Paint the Walls White

White walls aren’t going anywhere. Simply put, they add an elegance and freshness to a space unrivaled by any other color.

#4 Introduce (or refresh) Botanicals

Plants are living breathing species. What better way to inject youthfulness then this?  For the love of your home, if you have dead plants stop what you’re doing and take them to the curb now. If you struggle with keeping plants alive, talk to your nursery for suggestions on easy-to-care-for plants. Also, make a habit of buying fresh flowers on your weekly grocery store run.

#5 Add Something Reflective

Nothing says sexy like a little sparkle. Introduce metallics or mirrors, for an instant room facelift.

#6 Upgrade Your Pillow Inserts

Like that old boyfriend who had poor fitting slacks…cringe. If your pillow covers are droopy, your inserts are too small.  Put inserts in your covers that are 1"-2” bigger than the cover itself. Choose down vs. polyester, for even more luxury.  (Bonus advice…if you’re still rocking the matching pillows that came with your sofa, replace those too. Nothing says old and boring like matchy-matchy)

#7 Bring in a Fresh Rug

Truly, the unsung hero of a room is the rug. A new one will wildly transform your space in a flash.

#8 Add Dimmers to Your Lamps

Overly bright rooms are a real buzz kill.  Did you know you can add dimmers to your lamps for just a few bucks? Discreet table top dimmers come in black or white and can allow you to lower the light level. In the evening, it instantly transforms a room into a sultry space.

#9 Add a Punch with Abstract Art

Abstract Art is by nature mysterious. There are very talented rising artists who sell their works at a great price or offer prints that can be framed. Choose a piece with a punch of pink, yellow, or metallic for a really sexy addition to your home.

#10 Light a Candle

Finally, indulge your senses a little with a new candle. Pick one that shows off the glow inside for added sparkle. For scents with aphrodisiac qualities, try Amber in the fall and winter or Jasmine in the spring and summer.
